These named themes originate from retro or SPG (=Shortest Proof Game) genre of chess problems. They normally involve promoted units, original men, promotion squares and initial squares (Homebase) and are named with their originators or great masters of retro/SPG- art.

This time I will refrain from giving examples.

* Phoenix = a piece is captured, but a pawn later promotes to the same kind of piece.

* Pronkin = a promoted piece moves to the homebase of a captured piece of the same kind.

* Anti-Pronkin = an original piece goes to the promoting square of a captured promoted piece.

* Frolkin (aka. Ceriani-Frolkin) = the capture on a particular square of a piece promoted on a particular square.

* Donati = a promoted unit moves away and then returns to the promotion square.

* Schnoebelen = a promoted unit is captured without ever moving - but it's existence is still logically identifiable 'post mortem'.

Now, if your head is spinning like mine and your mouth feels dry, I suggest a pint of lager and some spicy sausages.
